Jesus and I (written 1989)
I cannot do it alone nor have the will,
The waves run fast and high.
The fog closes in with a chill,
As the light grows dim in the sky.
But I know that we two shall win,
Myself and Jesus within.
I pray for help that only He can give,
With my boat on the raging sea.
He comes, the One through Whom I live,
Who pulls or steers with me.
And I know that we two shall come safely into port,
His child and He.
Coward, wayward and weak,
I am like the ever changing sky.
One-day eager and brave,
The next day not caring to try.
But He never gives in,
We two, Jesus and I shall win.
Strong, tender and true.
Crucified once for all and me,
I know He will never change,
Whatever I am, do or be.
We shall finish our course and reach home at Last,
His child and He,
Forgetting the past.
